Sat in front of a still life at school and being told i must have excellent eye sight as I captured excruciating details of what was in-front of me. Examining each curve and crevasse like a my eyes were a vehicle gliding over and around the adventure that was the path exploring the surface of this natural form I was investigating/drawing. The drawing led to charcoal drawing then an abstraction which led to the formation of a sculpture.
I was learning, that representing what I was saying figuratively, was a skill, but the true creativity was developing this into something more. The beginnings of a journey/adventure/soul search and discovery of the self I wanted to portray through my art. At the time I saw celebrities selling themselves as their brand and now artists developing attention seeking stunts to get attention. If one is creating works to share an experience, and sometimes I feel we are told only certain experiences are valid, worthy of appreciation. I spent years painting mood paintings, expressions I wanted to pass on, the spirit of the subject I was absorbing. I explored letter writing as a means of articulating relationships from ones imagination. I wanted to paint dancers as the climax to this atmosphere within my work. Beauty, colour and balance. Throughout I continued to carry a note book with me, accumulating many completed notebooks I began to look through at my history of ideas and decided on a direction for future work. The here and now for me. ‘Mindfulness’ manifesting itself into my work. Exploration of the here and the now as a means for creating a future of fulfilled ambition. This site is a collection of expression leading to my current point. I believe that 'magic' is the word to run along side 'imagination' in the interpretation of my journey. Moving away from the intrinsic workings of dreams and relating to the wonderful and exciting surprises of our world. |
